Mahjong for Beginners
Ready to learn American Mahjong? This four-week beginner program will introduce you to the fundamentals of American Mahjong in a friendly, supportive environment. No prior experience is necessary.
Over four weeks, you’ll learn the basics of the game, including the tiles, setup, dealing, the Charleston, drawing and discarding, calling tiles, exposures, and the use of jokers. You’ll also learn how to read and use the National MahJong League card to select and build a hand.
As you progress, you’ll practice playing actual hands while learning basic strategy, table etiquette, and how to recognize a winning hand. The goal is to help you become comfortable with the rules and game flow so you can continue playing with others after completing the course.
